Matt Hampson Summer Ball
On June 20th Rob, his Dad and Ash were guests of Mick Donnegan and Special Effect at the Matt Hampson Summer Ball in Leicestershire. Setting off at 3 in the afternoon was not too early as an accident on the motorway meant that we were only just there in time. Matt’s foundation theme is Get Busy Living and he raises thousands of pounds to help others who have had the misfortune to be severely injured. The evening was full of fund raising opportunities with heads and tails, live and silent auctions of memorabilia or adventure trips as well as the bar takings!! Rob and his party certainly contributed to the latter.
It was great to meet again with our table host Mick Donnegan of Special Effect and remember what a fantastic job that Mick and his team did in getting Rob started on a computer using eyegaze technology back in Frenchay Intensive Care just 2 months after his accident. Without that start there is no way that Rob would be in the position now of waiting for end of first year exam results and taking on a placement with the law department of EDF Energy in Gloucester.
Rob had all his old stamina and we were virtually the last out of the carpark eventually getting home about 12 hours after we left. A great night.
Rob will be doing his own fundraising for the Special Effect charity both at Gatcombe Festival of Eventing in early August and then with the Tough Mudder challenge on August 23rd. Details of these will follow in due course.
