The Row4Rob Flotilla!

A big thank you to Sarah Payne and her helpers, sponsors and supporters for organising such a wonderful event in support of Rob. The sun shone as Sarah and 28 rowers set off on the first leg of their row down to Purton. As they set off Charles and Jan Nicolay were busy organising their team of helpers so the BBQ, cakes and refreshments were ready and waiting for their return. A few supporters followed on the towpath and others met the crews at Purton to offer encouragement (and jelly babies) ahead of

their return journey.

Back at the Boathouse, friends and families of the crews were gathering to offer their congratulations to the participants and to enjoy the wonderful food and refreshments.

It was great that Ian, Gill, Rob and Kirsty were able to join everybody at the Wycliffe Boathouse.

We have some wonderful photos of the event: Row4Rob Photos 1  –  Row4Rob Photos 2. Huge thanks to Neil Hampson and John Duckworth for sharing their images that really capture the spirit of the day.

There is a fuller write up on the Wycliffe Times website and the total raised from the event is now over £5,000.

The Donation Page is still open if you would like to add your support.

Huge thank you to everyone involved in the event for supporting Cammpaign4Rob.

Things to bring
If you would like to be able to sit down please bring your own rugs and folding chairs and if it looks like being wet or very sunny, your own small gazebo. We will be serving squash, tea and coffee so if you would like something else to drink please feel free to bring your own.

Safety
Please be aware if you are bringing small children that there is deep water in a disused section of canal, a flowing river as well as the canal itself, close to our BBQ area.

Good luck to everyone involved in the event and thank you for supporting Rob and his future.

Alan Campbell with his Bronze Medal

Alan Campbell with his Bronze Medal

Wycliffe College Boat Club is delighted to announce that Bill Barry and Alan Campbell have kindly offered to be Patrons for Row4Rob, our sponsored row of 16 miles on the Glos Sharpness canal on 21 June.

Bill, an Olympic Silver medallist in the coxless fours in 1964 Olympics, coached Alan Campbell to win his Bronze medal in the single scull at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Both men were very moved to hear about Rob’s injury and inspired by his motivation to rebuild his life and plans to go to University, and have offered to help in this generous way to promote our fundraising.

Bill has a connection to Wycliffe and Rob already, as he generously gave up time to coach Rob’s coxless quad in the run up to the Henley Qualifying races in 2011. Two sculling sessions that the boys will never forget! More news from Bill and Alan to follow.

Registration for the sponsored row and an opportunity to support the rowers by helping out or attending the post Row BBQ is now open so please contact Sarah on sflpayne@dsl.pipex.com
if you would like to be involved.

We also now have a Donation page so please do look at that as well: Row4Rob Donation Page

Rob was a keen and successful rower through his time at Wycliffe College, an important member of one of Wycliffe’s most successful recent crews, just missing out on competing at the Henley Royal Regatta. They did however gain a healthy medal collection at both National Championships and local regattas.

Current Boat Club members and OW rowers are most welcome to participate in this challenge, please contact Sarah Payne (sflpayne@dsl.pipex.com) if you would like to be involved and would like more information.
